Male Pattern Baldness- Causes and Symptoms

Baldness is a problem that happens to many people in this world especially men. Baldness problem is due to some factors such as poor diet, stress, hormonal problems, etc. but the most common one is male pattern baldness. It happened to two out of three men and there are about 25% of men who started to show the symptoms before they reach 21. Most men who suffer from male pattern baldness will do anything to stop the hair loss and find a way to grow it back. Hair loss affects their self-confidence, self-esteem, relationship and their working life. The question is, what causes male pattern baldness? What are the early symptoms?

The first cause is the genetic factor. Men who carry the genetic baldness from their father or mother are more prone to suffer male pattern baldness. This is due to the gene that triggers a sex hormone in the body that can lead to hair loss.

The second cause of the male pattern baldness is because of Di-hydrotestosterone or DHT hormone. An enzyme called 5α-reductase synthesizes DHT in the hair follicles, testes, adrenal glands and prostate.

Before that, we need to know what is hair follicle and how this hormone can stunt hair growth causing baldness? The hair follicle is a tiny hole in the skin where each strand of your hair sits. Hair follicles are very sensitive to the DHT hormone. What happens is that DHT that produced clogged the hair follicles and caused them to shrink. As the result, the hair becomes thin and fall out.

Referring back to the genetic factors, men that carry the genetic baldness is more prone to suffer the male pattern baldness. This is because these genes are more sensitive to the DHT. Some also say that the testosterone triggers the DHT hormone.

The symptom of male pattern baldness is hair will start thinning in the front side (hairline) and at the top of the head (crown). The hair will first begin to become finer. This is due to the shrinking of hair roots. Over time, the DHT hormone will cause the hair roots shriveled and died.

Some say that the male pattern baldness is permanent and cannot be cured. But Some are saying it could be treated since the hair loss is closely related to the hair follicles. Means, a treatment made to the hair follicles will stimulate hair growth. For me, the problem must be cured with the right way, with continuous and consistent treatment. The purpose of treatment is to clear the clogged hair follicles, improve blood circulation and provide enough nutrients for hair growth.
